Biography
Dr Shahistha Naidoo is a radiation oncologist at Bowen Icon Cancer Centre. Dr Naidoo completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal - Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine before undertaking specialist training in radiation oncology in South Africa. She became a Fellow of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 2017 and completed a Master of Medicine (MMed) at Walter Sisulu University in 2018. She completed her Certificate in Public Health at The University of Otago in 2023.
Since relocating to New Zealand, Dr Naidoo has been practising as a consultant radiation oncologist at Wellington Regional Hospital. In addition to her clinical practice, she is actively involved in leadership, research, and education. She is Chair of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists Breast Interest Group – Faculty of Radiation Oncology (RANZCR BIG FRO) Executive Committee and serves as Wellington Breast Cancer Regional Group Lead. She is also a lecturer at the University of Otago and contributes to clinical research and innovation initiatives across the Wellington region.
Dr Naidoo treats a broad range of solid tumour malignancies, with a special interest in upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers, breast cancer, melanoma, lung cancer as well as stereotactic radiotherapy. She also treats Benign conditions such as Dupuytren's contracture.
