Dr Courtney Macdonald is committed to delivering compassionate and holistic patient care. She believes in transparent and open communication with her patients and empowers them and their whanau to actively participate in decision-making, ensuring they make the best choices for their cancer management. She places an emphasis on cancer survivorship, supporting patients beyond treatment and addressing the importance of managing the ongoing psychological and physical impacts of cancer treatment.
Biography
Dr Courtney Macdonald is an experienced medical oncologist and provides consultation and treatment services at Bowen Icon Cancer Centre. Dr Macdonald completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Otago in 2010. She completed her specialist training in Wellington and Melbourne, Australia and became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2020.
Dr Macdonald is actively involved in clinical research and trials, as a member of the Australasian Breast Cancer Trials group and sub-investigator on various clinical trials at the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre. She undertook a clinical fellowship in breast and gynaecological cancer at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in 2020. During this time, she also completed a Master of Philosophy (Health Sciences MDHS) in breast cancer prevention at the University of Melbourne.
Alongside her practice at Icon, Dr Macdonald holds an appointment as Consultant Medical Oncologist at Wellington Regional Hospital. Dr Macdonald has a special clinical interest in breast and gynaecological cancers with a particular interest in the hereditary cancer risk and survivorship.
